Thanakrit is from a Karen ethnic group and was born in a rural Karen community in Kanchanaburi, Thailand that was affected by pollution from a nearby lead mine. He became a community youth leader to help his community get justice. He is now a community rights advocate and human rights defender. His career includes experiences in legal advocacy and human rights campaigning. He graduated from EarthRights International’s Mekong School in 2015, and the Mekong Legal Advocacy Institute training, in 2016. He has a bachelor’s degree in Law from the Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, Bangkok, Thailand. Thanakrit speaks Thai, Karen, and English.
