Rithy Bun
Bertha Fellow
Rithy Bun is Indigenous from the Tum Poun community of northeastern Cambodia. He joined EarthRights International as a Mekong Bertha Fellow in December 2022. Prior to joining EarthRights, he worked in human rights and campaign advocacy for over 6 years with grassroots communities, local and regional NGOs, and other human rights institutions across Cambodia. He began his career as an Indigenous Peoples Human Right Defender (IPHRD) at CIYA where he worked to promote Indigenous peoples right to traditional forest management, land management, and natural resources management.
Rithy has had many opportunities to attend regional and international training across ASEAN. This included joining the YSEALI program in the United States. He completed a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Royal University of Law and Economics with a focus on International Law. He is passionate about working in the human rights field, protecting the environment and focusing on Indigenous development issues.
