February 7, 2025, Washington, D.C. – EarthRights International has long stood with communities fighting against powerful interests that prioritize profit over people. We have taken on corporate polluters, held governments and international institutions accountable for human rights abuses, and represented environmental defenders facing criminalization and violence. This moment demands an even stronger response.
- Standing with Communities To Defend Rights and the Environment: EarthRights partners with frontline communities – those most impacted by the administration’s reckless policies in the United States and abroad. We will scale up our legal, advocacy, campaigning, and training support to communities to both obtain remedy for injustices as well as prevent harm from happening in the first place.
- Defending the Rule of Law and Human Rights: The destruction of institutions that uphold fundamental rights is not just an environmental issue but an existential threat to democracy and global stability. We will work with our partners to bring strategic legal actions, advocate for legislative and regulatory protections, and support efforts to mobilize global pressure, to ensure the existence of strong frameworks and institutions for defending rights.
- Legal Advocacy: We will dedicate resources to challenge unlawful attempts to strip frontline communities of their rights and environmental justice protections – including attempts by corporate actors to profit from political instability.
Unflagging Commitment to Frontline Communities Is Our Duty
The Trump administration’s actions so far risk the erosion of the foundations of justice, democracy, and environmental protection. We will not allow it. History has shown that destroying the rule of law leads to impunity, suffering, and injustice.
We call upon our allies, supporters, and all those who believe in justice to stand with us. We will act with our community partners, many of whom have long been on the receiving end of the impacts of harmful policies. And we will not rest until justice prevails.
This is not just about fighting back but about building a future where human rights, environmental justice, and democracy are stronger than ever. The fight for justice continues, and we are ready.
