EarthRights International honors our friend Bach’s strength of spirit and thanks all the friends and family who stood by him throughout his imprisonment. Please read statements from Bach and the Vietnam Climate Defenders Coalition below:
The Vietnam Climate Defenders Coalition, a group of international and regional human rights and climate justice organizations, welcomes the release of our friend and colleague, environmental lawyer Dang Dinh Bach, after five years of unjust imprisonment in Vietnam.
Bach has shared the following message with his supporters:
Hanoi, June 24, 2026
Dear friends, colleagues and international organizations,
I’m grateful to be back home and reunited with my family. Thank you to everyone who has reached out and shown support. Right now, my priority is spending some time with my family and adjusting to life back home. I hope you’ll understand if I’m not available for calls, visits, or messages for the next couple of weeks. Once I’ve had some time to settle in and reconnect with my loved ones, I’ll be looking forward to catching up with everyone.
Dang Dinh Bach
In accordance with his wishes and those of his family, the coalition is not making further public statements at this time. We continue to monitor his situation closely, and our thoughts are with Bach and his family as they begin this new chapter together.
We urge the Vietnamese authorities to guarantee full freedom of movement and safety to Bach and his family.
The Vietnam Climate Defenders Coalition is a group of over 30 international and regional environmental, climate justice, and human rights organizations concerned about threats to civic space and environmental defenders in Vietnam in the context of the energy transition.
