The Shwe Gas Movement stepped up its campaign against human rights and environmental abuses in Burma with the release of a devastating new report about natural gas development in western Burma. The report, entitled Supply and Command, shows in unsparing detail how the Shwe gas project in western Burma will destroy the environment, and lead to the forced relocation of thousands of people, forced labor, extortion, rape, and other forms of torture by the Burmese military.
The report encourages Daewoo International and its consortium partners from South Korea and India to discontinue their investment in the Shwe gas project, which stands to enrich Burma’s military dictators with up to a staggering US$17 billion by piping natural gas to India and China.
