EarthRights International mourns the loss of Daniela Fichino, who passed away on October 25, 2026, at the age of 43. Fichino, known to many as Dani Fi, was a lawyer, popular communicator (comunicadora popular), and human rights defender. She served as Deputy Director of Justiça Global, one of Brazil’s leading human rights organizations and a trusted ally of EarthRights.
We offer our condolences to Fichino’s family, friends, and colleagues. We honor her lifelong dedication to the communities and defenders she worked alongside, from families seeking justice for victims of state violence, to quilombola communities fighting for their land rights, to human rights defenders under threat. She pursued justice for them through domestic, regional, and international mechanisms and fora.
Fichino’s legacy lives on in the struggles she helped strengthen and in everyone she inspired, and it is now incumbent on us to carry it forward. In honor of her memory, EarthRights reaffirms its commitment to stand with human rights and environmental defenders in Brazil and around the world who are fighting for justice, accountability, and dignity for their communities.
Dani Fi, presente!
