We are saddened to hear about the passing of Oronto Douglas, unforgettable human rights activist and former EarthRights International Board Member. Oronto was a leading Nigerian environmental lawyer and co-founder of Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria. As Ken Saro Wiwa's lawyer in the brave battle against Shell when he was only 28 years old, he was an inspiration to all of us at ERI. Oronto was currently serving as the Special Adviser to Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan on Research, Documentation and Strategy. His leadership and vision for a better and more just world will be missed. Our deepest condolences to the Douglas family.
