Yenanchaung Township, Magway Division. Land Confiscation and Damage Without Compensation. Construction vehicles carrying pipeline components and supplies on their way to the pipeline corridor have damaged family farmlands between Mong brook and the Irrawaddy River, near Mu Can village, Yenanchaung Township, Magway Division. The damage, pictured in April 2012, has severely impacted families’ harvests of onions, beans, and rice crops necessary for their livelihoods. The companies paid compensation in May 2011 to farmers for the use and damage to land for pipeline construction for 100 feet around the pipelines, but have used and damaged farmland 150 feet around the pipeline without paying additional compensation.
