La Escuela Amazonica de Derechos Humanos y Ambiente (Quito, Ecuador). Our work in the Amazon began in 2001 with the founding of La Escuela Amazonica de Derechos Humanos y Ambiente (Amazon School for Human Rights and the Environment) in Quito, Ecuador. A joint program run in partnership with the Centro de Derechos Economicos y Socialas, the school was open for four years and trained indigenous and mestizo leaders from the Andean-Amazon countries in human rights and environment issues. The intensive course included workshops in contemporary Amazon environment and development issues, economic, social and cultural rights, strategic campaigning and advocacy, media messaging, and internet use.
