EarthRights School Mekong students learned about the Mae Moh villagers’ experiences and the strategies they use to protect their rights. The villagers filed a lawsuit against EGAT. This was the first lawsuit of its kind in Thailand. The court took more than 20 years to finally grant the Mae Moh villagers a victory on February 25, 2015. Nevertheless, only specific individuals in the community who were able to receive a certificate from a doctor guaranteeing that their sickness is related to the coal power plant will be compensated by EGAT.
